Born in 1974, the artist Lang Ea left Cambodia with her family when she was a child, as a result of the confusion generated by the rise and fall of the group of the Red Khmers (who have perpetrated a genocide against more than 3 million of people), and she gravitated in the refugee camps on the Thailand border for years.

Today, Lang Ea is an internationally renowned artist, who divides her time between New York, Australia and New Zealand, creating symbolic installations and painting of great emotional impact.

She has created Listen as intense testimony of the civil war she has lived: an event towards which she looks as an indirect consequence of the ‘reversals’ triggered by the world wars.

The artist identifies a fil rouge between the first world conflict and the Cambodian genocide: the desperate dimension of seriality and the multitude waste of lives. In both cases there is a need for a human rediscovery able to shed light on the absurdity of the conflict.
A work of impressive intensity, that the artist chooses to relocate in a meaningful place for one of the most dramatic pages of European history: the trenches of Stavoli of the Plans, in Dogna.
