Democracy and e-democracy through the implementation of life skills, participatory cultural research and creative workshops
The project aims to explore, reframe and reconstruct in collective terms contemporary perceptions of common European history, identity and cultures in order to foster dialogue and participation at the democratic level.
More specifically:
- The project aims to create knowledge about the legacy of the past in order to draw an important lesson for the present: by addressing the historical theme of totalitarianism and democracy building, the project wants to spread the importance of democracy for the present and for tomorrow, revealing important knowledge in the democratic mechanism (democracy is a priority of the project)
- The project considers digital media as the most important for reaching new generations: digital can reduce distances and give access on a larger scale to educational content, counteracting misinformation with quality information (media criticism and e-democracy are priorities for the project)
- The project creates a lasting network of collaborations among partners, engaging citizens of different nationalities, ages and social classes in participatory and creative practices to improve skills that can change their attitudes toward inclusive and proactive construction of democratic society
The output includes the realization of international in-person and digital events, as well as 2 exhibitions, with the partnership of 7 countries (Italy, Croatia, Latvia, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovenia).
Three approaches will be used:
- the first involves participatory historical research, including collecting and digitizing testimonies of Resistance veterans
- the second involves online and in-person participatory events that give voice to civil society, particularly targeting young people: the events will gather perceptions about the history, values and functioning of contemporary Europe, insisting on the mechanism of democracy
- the third one uses a creative approach: a selection of artists, educators, and art therapists will engage young people and their families (parents, grandparents) in a reflection on democracy and e-democracy through creative workshops: in this way, it will be possible to create the conditions for the enhancement of cognitive and non-cognitive skills that can ensure a better awareness of the democratic process
All the material produced during these events will be documented, collected in a book and turned into an educational tool. In addition, an emotional video will be produced and disseminated through social media as an important tool in the dissemination process.

Educational Tool
The democratic process and how it works are not easy to understand, and it is important to understand what its weaknesses are so that each of us can improve it.
That is why we have created this educational tool, a tool dedicated to educators, parents, teachers, boys and girls, which traces the practices and themes of the European Comfort Zone / Democracy & E-Democracy project to approach the topic of democracy through three simple creative exercises, collective or individual, to be cultivated in workshop or community center settings.
