The approach of the project focus on building a replicable educational model that unites participatory art practices with social and natural science to address local issues related to inequalities and migration in the community. We have tested out this module through our project Comfort Zone / Atelier, which focused on 11-14 age groups. We want to expand our reach through this fund to include 14 – 25 age group.
Our module is tailor-made to address local issues through the use of artistic language and a series of “social art” actions (site-specific installations, land art, sound art). The approach focuses on fostering local resources and creating a local network of artists and researchers, who guide students of different socio-cultural background towards realizing
art projects in public spaces relevant to the collective memory of the people in the area. The aim is to promote values of tolerance and respect towards diversity, which is an essential component of the European identity, through utilizing artistic language to transform public spaces into sites of dialogue and reflection.

Activities of the project:
Photography and Storytelling: Pairing emerging artists with youth from multicultural backgrounds to develop artistic vocabulary to express their cultural identity and relation to their community, while acquiring new visual and technical skills related to the practice of photography.
Participatory Theatre and Video art: Through partnerships with schools in the area, bilingual youth work with artists and writers for one (or two) academic terms to develop and film a story that narrates the intergenerational journey and challenges that led them to their existence within the territory.
Public Space and Land Art: Revitalising familiar or forgotten public spaces by involving youth and land artist to collaboratively re-imagine and repurpose their neighbourhoods (empty lots, deserted parks, civic plazas etc) through site-specific installations.
Sound Art: Using soundwalking as a methodology to reconnect with the history of the territory by retaining the narrative of the inhabitants while inscribing the new narratives of migrants through the creation of audio-visual tours.
Mapping and Counter-Cartography: Using counter-cartography as a subversive art
practice to chart the paths, stories, and emotional geographies of the migrants in the area. This activity, done collaboratively, serves to question the biases of cartographic conventions and challenge predominant power effects of mapping, illuminating in the process the alternative and invisible worlds of the migrants in the area.
